So old friend Jamie Collins is returning to the Patriots this year, adding another ball-hawking playmaker to their Super Bowl winning defense. While many people are wondering about the offense, specifically the inclusion of new receivers over the game and how to replace Gronk and his irreplaceable production, I found myself more intrigued with what is going on in defense.
Newsflash – Pats defense looks stacked and
This defense shouts for aggression and I say, "The dogs are loose!"
A shame that former defender Brian Flores is now in Miami. I'm really happy with the aggressive brand he put into defense after years of watching more conservative strategy by Matt Patricia. That and I hate Miami, but neither here nor there, just said, Flores went for it. He has shown many different looks from 201
The thing is, neither Patricia nor Flores have the depth of players that this defense appears in every level. I got into thinking that we could see Belichick's absolute best defensive tricks now that he has an abundance of talent to get more creative. This Patriots running over the past 18 years is incredibly sure, but I am for one eager to see some of the defending domains that have been the mark of the earliest entry into the Patriots dynasty. In many of these Patriots teams over the past few years, defense has been included in the ride, but this person wants a complete reversal of that trend. 2019 projects to look at 2001-2004 teams that kicked them all. Defending can be the main ingredient to their success while the offense gradually comes to a boil. I think Belichick wants to see him at Super Bowl LIII and guess we see more here.
True classic Belichick. While everyone is looking for a way he looks at other ways and voila! A dominant defense appears. In the quarterback position becoming stronger within the division, the Patriots serve a reenergized defense. There is now an influx of young people, the speed and skill of playmaking that grows as they build the ring of slinging players Sam Darnold, Josh Allen and newcomer Josh Rosen have entered into their own. It's antique Belichick and do not forget, the Patriots have many offenses of their own as well. Tom Brady will get her and move the ball properly, but if they open the flood gates I think that, the Patriots defense will win games for this team all year round.
Let's break down the front.
The Second : Dear AFC offense, good luck. This unit has it all. All-Pro closes the corner Stephon Gilmore your anchor and leads the cornerback. He was flanked by veteran smarts with Jason McCourty and two younger players in Jonathan Jones and J.C Jackson. Duke Dawson's second round pick last year adds to the youth and ups and downs, and another second round pick in this draft by Joejuan Williams boasts all the measurable salutation draftniks. He is big, fast and gutsy. The times were good to the second Patriots and I did not mention the safeties yet to whom a reliable, experienced and championship pedigree was. Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung and Duron Harmon are all reliable players and field leaders. The Patriots just say that they have invested heavily in their second and now it is the foundation of their defense, where everything else flows. This could be the best Patriots secondary from the Chuck Fairbanks teams of the last decade of the 70's. It's potentially good.
Linebacker: For many years people are shouting for more players in this position and I'm in camp. Back in that day, Tedy Bruschi had a nose for the ball and Mike Vrabel had a great timing with the ability to get into the quarterback. In recent times, Dont & a Hightower is an animal when it's healthy and always sticking to the biggest stage but help is needed in this area for a moment.
Rapidly goes on today; Kyle Van Noy has gained the level that jumped last year and has some major additions made. Now suddenly, there are playmakers all over the center of the field. Hightower, Van Noy, Jamie Collins and 2018 draft J & # 39; s Whaun Bentley seem to be a potentially heavy group on the head of this linebacking core. There is also a lot of depth beyond them with our acquaintances like Elandon Roberts and Christian Sam. This unit can be fun to watch. Belichick loves his linebackers and now has a full cupboard of their choice and game plan.
The Depensive Line : This unit is more robust than it is marvelous and delicious. They will have all day to pass rush to the coverage they should get at the back end and have enough talent in the creative scheme from the same levels behind them. That's not all however. This unit also has the ability to play talent and playmaking. A healthy Derek Rivers demonstrates the promise as an end rusher and the air of fame seems completely behind the rookie third round draft pick Chase Winovich. His tape looks exciting and adds an element of speed off the edge which can cause violations of many problems. People like Deatrich Wise, Lawrence Guy, John Simon, Adam Butler and Keionta Davis all contributed to the last time with and newcomer Michael Bennett brings the attitude and a heck of an on-field resume at his own right.
So my expectation is a little higher than the old "bend do not break" adage. I think this tiredness requires a refresh, to "not bend or break." You've found a new template for success in Super LIII and now their defense should be better. There are many talents here.
