David A. Grogan | Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway on Wednesday revealed a government filing its bet size on Amazon's e-commerce giant.
Berkshire's stake on Amazon was 483,300 shares at the end of the quarter ended on March 31, according to filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission. That amount was $ 904 million by closing bell on Wednesday afternoon.
Buffett announced the new Amazon investment in CNBC on May 2, one day before the annual shareholder's Berkshire meeting in Omaha. The size of the position, however, has not been reported to the public.
The famous value investor ̵
"One of the fellows in the office that manages money … bought some Amazon to show it at 13F," Buffett said on May 2. Buffett could have spoken one of his two lieutenants, Todd Combs or Ted Weschler, who each manages portfolios of more than $ 13 billion in equities for Berkshire.
"Yes, I'm a fan, and I'm an idiot for not buying" Amazon shares, Buffett said on time. "But I want you to know that no personal changes are occurring."
Amazon shares increased by 0.3% after trading hours following the SEC filing.
Berkshire Hathaway's report also showed an 18% increase in JP Morgan Chase stake at 59.5 million shares and 22% in its Red Hat holdings with 5.1 million shares.
